====== Mail Forwarding and Vacations ======
===== Mail Forwarding using the Physics Directory =====
Email forwarding can now also be setup through the physics directory. This allows users without a physics email account to still receive essential physics system mail such as quota notifications. The address specified in the directory takes precedence over any forwarding specified in the webmail system.
To change your directory forwarding address go to the [[https://www.physics.umn.edu/myphys/physacct.html|Physics Account Options]] page. Enter your **Current Physics Password** to verify your identity, update your **E-mail Forwarding Address**, and click **Update Account** to save your changes.
===== Mail Forwarding and Vacation (out-of-office) replies =====
Email forwarding and vacation or out-of-office messages can be set up through the [[http://www.physics.umn.edu/support/mail/webmail.html|Physics webmail system]] (remember, though, that directory forwarding takes precedence over anything set up in webmail: any webmail filters will be ignored if directory forwarding is specified).
==== To set up forwarding ====
First log into Physics webmail, then
* Click on **Filters**
* Click **Add a New Rule**
* Under Condition click on the box that says **Header** after the first bullet point, and change it to say **All**.
* Under Action choose **Redirect to the following email address:** and enter your email address in the box that appears.
* Click **Add New Rule** at the bottom
==== To set up a vacation message ====
You can also set up a "vacation" message, which will be sent back to anyone who sends you mail while you are away for any reason. It will only send the reply once to any one person, and it will not reply to mailing lists.
* Click on **Filters**
* Click **Add a New Rule**
* Under condition click on the box that says **Header** after the first bullet point, and change it to say **All**.
* Under Action choose **Vacation** and enter your vacation message (or you can use the standard one which is already supplied).
* Click **Add New Rule** at the bottom
==== To cancel forwarding or a vacation message: ====
* Click on **Filters**
* Select the filtering rule you want to delete using the check box
* Click **Delete** found after "Action for Selected Rules:"
