{{indexmenu>:computing:accounts#1}} ====== Accounts and Passwords ====== Ideally, we set up a Physics account for new faculty, staff and graduate students automatically. However, if communication has failed and you don't have one, then please talk to someone in room 145. Your physics username and password are the same for Windows, Unix/Linux and Email. To log in at one of our Windows workstations: * Press CTRL-ALT-DELETE on the workstation keyboard (all three keys together). This brings up the login screen. * Enter your username and password (you need to use TAB to move between the fields on this screen). Also make sure that the Domain is set to "SPA", otherwise you won't be able to log in. * Press RETURN or click OK. To log in to a Physics Unix or Linux workstation, you can log in by typing your username and password at the login window on the display. To connect to our system from your Mac or PC, or from outside the department, you should use Secure Shell (SSH). ===== Passwords ===== Having logged in for the first time, you should [[:computing:accounts:passwords|choose a new password]]. ===== Replacing Passwords for SSH ===== Frequent users of SSH should use [[:computing:department:windows:ssh_and_telnet:public_key|public-key authentication]] rather than their account password.
