====== Printing and Scanning ====== To find what printers are available to you, consult our list of [[queues|print queues]]. As a general rule, each of the department-managed print queues is named after its room number. After submitting a print job, you can check its status online by checking the print server [[http://lpr.spa.umn.edu:631/jobs|jobs listing]] (this link will only work within Tate Lab). ===== Printing Using Department Machines ===== Department machines have available printers pre-installed. For more information on use see the relevant department pages: * [[:computing:department:unix:printing|Printing on Unix]] * [[:computing:department:windows:printing|Printing on Windows]] ===== Printing Using Personal Machines ===== Printing is supported from the wired network within Tate Lab, and from the secure [[:computing:network:wireless:wpa|PhysicsWPA wireless network]]. It is not supported from the insecure [[:computing:network:wireless|Physics wireless network]] (which requires a web login) or from outside Tate Lab. Setup guides: * [[:computing:network:print:win|Windows]] * [[:computing:network:print:mac|Mac OS]] * [[:computing:network:print:unix|Unix or Linux]] * [[:computing:network:print:toshiba|Specific instructions for Toshiba Copiers]] ===== Scanning ===== There are several devices available to use to scan, copy and send documents. An HP network scanner is located in Physics 216, and two Toshiba eStudio digital copiers are located in FTPI room 431 and in the Astronomy Department (hallway outside Physics 358). All of these devices will scan pages or documents and send them to a given email address as either a PDF or TIFF attachment. * For use instructions view our [[:computing:network:print:scanning|usage overview page]], otherwise the [[:computing:department:manuals|User Manuals]] for both types of device are also available online (PDF Format). ===== Printer Supplies ===== **Paper** can be obtained from the mailroom or outside room 80, next to the copier. For **toner or ink**, most printers should have a sticker with directions on how to obtain supplies. For the major shared printers in the building, we will monitor toner level and replace when needed, but you can also send email to net@physics.umn.edu if necessary. ==== For HP printers with a Cartridge Care sticker ==== When toner runs low, call Cartridge Care at (612) 331-7757, and tell them the printer ID from the sticker (eg "SOPA#3"), as well as the room number. They will come and replace the toner. Please make sure someone is available to let them into the room when they are supposed to arrive. ===== Printer service ===== For printer maintenance or other problems, send email to [[mailto:net@physics.umn.edu|net@physics.umn.edu]]. If an error code is given on the printer display, please let us know the exact code, as well as what caused it (if known - for example, if it was caused by printing a particular type of file).
