====== Wireless Networking ====== Wireless access is available over most of Tate Lab. We continue to add coverage as needed (let us know if the signal is poor in a particular area). Most of the building now supports 802.11a and 802.11b/g wireless standards. ===== Standard wireless access ===== If your computer gives you a choice of wireless networks to connect to, you should choose "Physics". No network registration is required; instead you simply "log in" to the wireless network when you first connect to it. Until you do this, you will be unable to access any service other than the network login web page. * Open a web browser window, and visit any web page. * You will be redirected to our network login page. * Enter your University of Minnesota Internet username and password or your Physics username and password. Your access is kept open until you disconnect from the wireless network for 10-15 minutes. ==== Guest Accounts ==== If you do not have a Physics, or University internet (X.500) account, see our [[guests]] page. ==== Further notes ==== * Windows networking and filesharing is not available between wireless and wired networks (with the exception of the server "public" for print queues). * Please don't connect your own wireless access points to our network - this is forbidden by our network policy. * Please consult the University's [[http://www1.umn.edu/adcs/network/|Network Configuration Guide]] if you need any extra information on configuration. The Physics wireless system is similar to, and compatible with, the University's system. ===== Secure wireless (WPA) ===== If you would like to help test our new WPA wireless network, please [[:computing:network:wireless:wpa|read this page]].
