Mathematica

The School has a license for Mathematica which allows us to run it on any University-owned (departmental or research group) system. It's available for Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and several UNIX platforms. The license does not extend to home or other personally-owned systems.

Matlab

The department has a license for Matlab which allows us to run it on any departmental or research group system. Version 2008a is available for Windows and several Unix platforms including Linux and Mac OS X. In order to run the software you will need to be connected to the network. Licenses are served from a license server and continuous network connection is required to use any of the toolboxes.

SSH secure shell

Secure Shell (SSH) is the recommended replacement for telnet for remote access to Unix and VMS systems. Similarly, Secure File Transfer (SFTP) replaces FTP. Ssh can also be used to tunnel less-secure protocols and make them work over restricted firewalls.

Campus Agreement Licenses

The university has a campus-wide agreement for OS upgrades for Windows and Mac OS, and for Microsoft Office for Windows and Macintosh. CD images may be downloaded either from our own software download area or from the campus agreement web site. The agreement covers all computers which are owned or leased by the University of Minnesota.

X server software
