Discussion about whether spring 18 S4 WS can be joint with probe study - remains unclear TeamI session dates fixed: Dec 19-21 + Mar 13-15, TeamX Mar 20-21 Shaul describes Imager WG slides on wiki. Baseline design mid size reflector with multi-chroic bolometers. Starting points EPIC and CORE studies. Initial questions: optics: cross-Dragone has strong sidelobe. EPIC argued this was OK given scan strategy etc. Not clear this is true at the lower noise levels now being considered. Considering "open-Dragone" - better sidelobe but bigger mirrors for given effective aperture. Doing work fitting optical systems into Falcon-9 rocket fairing. Variables boresight to spin axis angle (beta) and spin axis to precession axis (anti-sun direction) angle (alpha). beta=alpha is preferable and bigger is better. Pushes one to deployable shield. Charles asks if two telescope designs have been considered (WMAP did it). Shaul: not really at this point - but it's an interesting idea. Shaul: describes starting point for focal plane model. TES multi-chroic up to 555GHz. Have some sim maps available from previous studies. Outlined near term timeline. Chuss: Galactic science update based on minutes of initial working group meeting. armin res at 850GHz is interesting. For star formation could fill in the "missing piece of the puzzle" in terms of scales combined with SOPHIA/ALMA etc. Shaul: is it the 1arcmin or the 850GHz that people like? Chuss: the 1arcmin really. Chuss: Diffuse ISM: CMBP sensitivity should be sufficient. Question was asked if CMBP would be scooped by optical pol + GAIA. Doesn't seem so - not enough stars to beat the resolution. Pryke: opt pol + GAIA is in principle 3d? Chuss: yes - but CMBP would still be complementary allowing to add the high res part of the picture. Pol spectrum: Some support for FTS instrument here. External galaxies: 1 arcmin means >10 measurements across each gal out to 10Mpc - 1000 gal would be surveyed. Would be really nice uniform data set. Other topics: some others were thrown out and will be further considered. Overall: quite a lot of enthusiasm and more telecons will follow. Discussion of how to capture the science versus resolution tradeoffs. Shaul: what if we loose highest band and the resolution goes down? * __Team I Instrument Study__: \\ Facilitator \\ Systems \\ Deputy Systems \\ Configuration \\ Cost\\ Electronics\\ Mechanical\\ Optics\\ Detectors (probably use Roger for continuity)\\ Thermal (probably use Chris for continuity) \\ * __Team X Mission/Spacecraft Study__ Facilitator \\ Systems\\ Deputy Systems\\ ACS (attitude control)\\ CDS (command and data)\\ Configuration\\ Cost\\ Ground Systems\\ Instruments\\ Mechanical\\ Mission Design\\ Power\\ Propulsion\\ Science\\ Software\\ SVIT (system level integration and test)\\ Telecom\\ Thermal\\
