====== Telecon Notes 20180214 ====== Attendance: Lloyd, Julian, Amy, Shaul, Nick, Charles, Dan, Dave Notes by: Karl \\ === Agenda:=== * May Workshop * {{https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kIxWWhZd0Kv-Nt9KnJ-9YyNdxTt8SMUxaMoF6-QWgZU/edit#gid=529735521|google sheet with some program suggestions}} * === Notes === May Workshop * travel funds for invitees of $400 in US, $800 from other continents. * Fundamental physics. Lloyd: Converged? Dan: All fine with speakers. Francis Yan on panel. Lloyd: Can invite large panel. So if some can't come panelists can move to presentations. * Shaul: we can't over invite, but < 4 on panel is ok. If we move people off panel to fill discussion. * Jens to replace Sylvia if she can't come. * Panel: Francis-Yan, Yacine, Arminia Calabrese, Meerburg * **Dan** and/or Lloyd to send invitations. * Extragalacic. Happy with talk list? Panel names? * Nick: names online in spreadsheet, 5 people. And have backups for speakers if people can't come. * Nick: could fill in 17:00 slot with component separation. Useful tool. * Shaul: makes sense. can decide in few days on final speaker invite. * **Nick** to issue remaining invitations. coordinate with Shaul on Colin/Jacques invitations. * **Lloyd** to forward invite template to group. * Galactic Science. * Dave: current speaker plans are good. Added topics in GS + foregrounds make sense. * CL: Brandon good choice to talk in overlap of GS and foregrounds. * Shaul: Do we want Brandon to talk about foregrounds models or dust composition? * CL: could make him do both, sky models and dust composition. Also he gives good talks. * Dave: Or at 14:25 we could have a panel/summary on galactic. * Shaul: reason for combined panels is time constraint mostly. even if this isn't ideal. * Dave: could give Brandon ~30 min to do both topics. then stretch panel time. * CL: * Shaul: is current discussion session of foregrounds + galactic ok? * Dave: this is ok. since dust models blend to foregrounds. * Shaul: panel names for galactic? * Dave: current speakers are good. Shaul: extra input is also good. * Dave: can invite more. Jiles as possible moderator, or panelist. Terry Jones. **w/Laura will get 2-4 names for panel, prioritized.** * **Dave/Laura** officially invite current speakers. * Technology + syst. * Shaul: w/Hannes have names list. Condensed talks slightly. Will invite Peter Shirron. * Systematics. Brendan will come for 1/2 day. Working on last speaker slot. * Panel in line 70. + adding 1 person from systematics. Have backups as well. Invitations will be issued. * Julian: Still very gender imbalanced. Can we get Joy? * Shaul: Joy is moving to a new job, so no luck. Other ideas are welcome. * Final report discussion. * 85 min. with panelists. Lloyd moderates. * Suggested panel: Susanne, (Lyman, Chuck, or Scott -- steering committee), Al Kogut, John Ruhl -- external. * CL: format? SH: primarily discussion based is goal. 5 min talk per panelist is sufficient. * LK: Some structure is useful for 85 min block. prompts/responsibilities to specific panelists? * SH: example possible topics. - 50 page report only doc? and additional white paper(s)? additional info to decadal? * SH: 50 page likely won't do justice to whole case. * Dan: like multiple white papers, not one large paper. * CL: need report guidelines present to guide this discussion. * CL: for multiple white papers. imagine them as chapters in larger book, so they don't get split apart. * CL: for decadal, longer isn't always better. they will have a great amount to read. * SH: another option, can put white papers on arXiv and cite them in 50 pg report. - case for space. synergy with ground and other data in next 10 yrs - other suggestions? * CL: report guidelines? SH: 50 page to SOMA (cost review). w/ engineering addendum that is TeamX or possibly an edited version. * AT: NASA guidelines; 50 page, >1/2 should be science. Looks likely to remove TeamX report as part of this. Puts more pressure on report for engineering details. * Lloyd: let's invite those panelists for now. can adjust topics next week. * SH: yes, we'll proceed with that.
