====== Telecon Notes March 14, 2018 ====== Attendance: Shaul, Charles, Julian, Lloyd, Amy, Dave Notes by: Karl === Agenda:=== * May Workshop (all); Program google sheet * ; * The STDT Example * S4 Decadal Prep: Update from Michigan; does that affect the workshop (Lloyd? , Julian?) * TeamX Sessions: next two weeks * TeamX reports to SOMA (Shaul) === Notes: === May workshop * conference / not conference. NASA requires 3 months forcasting for a 'conference'. Issues for Brendon, Roger, maybe others. * LUVOIR meetings are similar and not conferences. Main difference was all LUVOIR meetings were under same webpage as their telecons, so avoided the issue. * Now linked our workshop through wikipage. Plan to remove main workshop page and put everything under wiki. * Talked to Rita S. at headquarters and looks reasonable to get this changed. Filling out a form through Rita and she'll pass this to final determiners at headquarters. * CL: NASA is sometimes opaque. But framing this as 'working meeting' makes sense. Possible pushback due to number of attendees. * Connecting to broader community. For decadal, astro connection is important. Also galactic science connections and neutrino science connections. * Worth attending other meetings and talking about PICO (e.g. for galactic science meetings) * Lloyd: go find them and talk, rather than setting up a special session (like at AAS) and expecting them to come to us. * SH: should we have a main conference contact? To field suggestions of conferences * LK: Can do this. Look at emails of options and forward them to appropriate speaker options. * SH: will also talk to Nick about what connections he knows, especially with S4. * SH: note that after Jan. we'll have little money to fund travel. Most money for travel will be now to December. * Program finalizing: * status of Tracy and fundamental physics talk? * **Lloyd/Dan** to finalize with Tracy and finalize Cosmic Birefringence * Galactic/Extrgalactic * Nick with final panel invited will check with him * Sky models will be covered by Brendan or Clem * Tech panel being set by Shaul * Thursday morning: * Suzanne is a yes. Lloyd moderating. Shaul/LLoyd to finalize panel today. * Shaul to reach out to Scott D. * Intro talk about process? * Suggestions for person? John C.? --Shaul contact him. He served on previous panel. * Josh Frieman was on last panel also. * Mike Turner * S4 process was talked about by John C. ---- E-mail from Lloyd Decadal Survey timeline, from John C’s S4 presentation * Fall 2018: Survey Chair selected (could be much sooner) * Early 2019: Survey Committee finalized and approved * Early 2019: 1st survey meeting, scope and date set for white papers * Mar 2019: Short “white papers” due: - We need to submit CMB-S4 Overview white paper, i.e., killer science case, readiness, w/ cost estimate and schedule - We also want to encourage submission of additional science white papers that support CMB-S4 * Spring 2019: Survey requests additional input from selected projects - We need to have detailed CMB-S4 science and project description ready, what we are referring to as the “Decadal Survey Conceptual Design Report” ---- TeamX next 2 weeks. * Instrument next week (3 days) * Mission week after * Input from TeamX to independent cost estimator (ICE) * Reservations taken to NASA. * Plan is TeamX to ICE (with TeamX having been briefed that goals of this TeamX is slightly different) * We can also add narrative to these slides. * 'rebuttal' was word used. but just explanation and added information is more Shaul's thought. * Hoping to iterate with TeamX and their slides to send correct message to ICE. * AT: this is a reasonable expectation. Matches my conversations with TeamX. Have talked to TeamX folks about different audience for slides this time around.
