Telecon Notes 20170712

Attendance:
Notes by: Raphael

  • Update on Workshops
    1. Foregrounds - Raphael
      1. Currently aiming for last week of October or first week of November
    2. Science + Complementarity - Mark and/or Bill or Shaul
  1. Current target date is May 2018
    1. JB: Possibly coordinate with series of workshops for LiteBIRD? Previous workshops in 12/15 (Japan) and 1/17 (Montreal) Third workshop proposed around 1/18
    2. SH: Should workshops be endorsed by both teams? May not be good at this point?
  • Update from Fundamental Physics WG - Raphael
  • Update from Extragalactic WG - Nick Battaglia
  1. Recently formed extragalactic science working group, currently 15 members (+pending)
  2. current approach: extragalactic science cases given CORE design
    1. Galaxy clusters: - finding clusters, cosmology, CIB and radio contamination, y-maps, individual tSZ, kSZ, and rSZ for cluster science
    2. Galaxy formation at z > 2 - properties of star-formation (SF) during the peak of SF via the CIB
    3. Velocity fields - cosmology, contamination, systematics
    4. Thermodynamic of galaxy formation - feedback, non-thermal pressure, ionized baryon content
    5. Reionization - Optical depth constraints, kSZ power spectrum, mid-point and duration of reionization
    6. Gravitational lensing? Need to involve experts in lensing/delensing, currently involved in extragalactic science working group
JM: Why are Planck beams not diffraction limited at high frequencies?
BC: Not enough signal band width
JM: Can we handle signal band width for diffraction limited beams at ~800 GHz?
SH, NB: What is needed for cluster science? 500-600 GHz?
  • More on NASA slides (continuation from 2 weeks ago) - Shaul
    1. moved to next telecon
