Questions to be answered:

  • range of sensitivities

i. Common materials screening: ~10-11 g/g for 40K, 232Th, 238U.

  ii.	Very low background: ~10-12 g/g for 40K, 232Th, 238U.
  iii.Ultra-low background in electroforming copper: ~10-13g/g  for 232Th, 238U.
* # detectors
  i.	10 gamma-ray stations for common materials screening.
  ii.	4 gamma-ray stations for very low background materials.
  iii.2 gamma-ray stations for ultra-low background counting.
* distribution by depth
  i.	300-ft or 800-ft levels for common materials screening.
  ii.	4850-ft for very low-background and ultra-low background counting.
* staffing and expertise
  i.	Two staff numbers are needed for operating the facility.
  ii.	Expertise: Much expertise can be called from different institutions.

Software: Reyco Henning

  • validated MC with proper geometry
  • same software package for all screeners
  • A plan on HOW to implement validation etc.
