Telecon Notes

November 8, 2007, 3pm EDT

Steve describes the status of preparations for the proposal.

  • Workshops:
    • Irwin and Hanany will lead the technology development workshop. It will be held in August/September 2008 in Boulder. Part of Hanany's and Irwin's work will be to assess TRL levels of all the technology development necessary for a future satellite and to estimate necessary costs for further development.
    • The Hinshaw and Ruhl will lead the 'template missions, scan strategy and systematics' workshop. There was some discussion on whether the 'template missions' should be part of this or the 'technology' workshop. But opinions were that it should be part of this work shop.
    • A leader for the 'theory' workshop is TBD. Steve has few candidates. There was some discussion about trade-offs of the several candidates.
  • Detailed Studies:
    • Bock and Seifert/Lawrence will lead the bolometric and HEMT studies respectively. The current bolometric study leans heavily toward a 1 degree option. There was discussion about the importance of including some more weight on a ~4 arcminute beam option. Several people thought that the 4' option must be analyzed and discussed in the final report, even if the final conclusion is that this option is second priority because of cost and because much of the science can be done from the ground. Al Kogut suggested that we put minimal amount of effort into a 4' analysis because CMBPol will or will not be done solely on the promise of detecting inflation, not the lensing signal. Jamie said he will need some resources to look again into the 4' option.
    • Steve mentioned other people who volunteered to do some work, but no concrete agreements have yet been made.
