====== Data Backups ======

We keep regular backups of home directories on both our Unix systems and our Windows Active Directory servers.
  * On Unix, IT staff can assist you in recovering lost files from  you home directory.
  * On Windows, you can also directly access backup copies of your files using the "Restore previous version" menu.

===== Research data backup =====

Unix/Linux **research data is not backed up centrally** by default. We can perform offsite backups of your linux data hosted on our main file servers by special arrangement (there is a modest cost)

For Windows-based research computers, we do not currently offer a network backup service. We recommend connecting such computers to our Windows Active Directory file server, where they will be backed up.

The College runs a system called CrashPlan for backup of standalone computers.
