This is an old revision of the document!

QM wiki page

Intro

This is the new (final) place that we try to write a perfect note for our QM class. It is supposed to have a way to enter math equation as well, so I hope this will work.

Just a quick note that I was told that the system is set up so that you won't be able to edit this page directly. You can only edit the linked pages for chapter 1, 2, … If this causes a problem for you to be freely write things here, we may modify some of the way these pages are set up. So please let me know what kinds of things you want to do with this wiki.

original intention for setting this up

This is a new experiment I am doing in our Quantum class to try to improve our communication by having a common place to post notes, questions and answers.

I am hoping that some of you will step up and write notes based on my lecture. I envision that this will serve the following purposes.

1. Writer(s) will learn the materials more deeply by simply trying to summarize what they heard in the lecture, and get feedback from classmates, TA and me.
2. I will have a clearer picture of what students have learned and what they did not. Using this information, I will adapt my following lecture to the needs of the students, add clarifications in the note directly, etc.
3. Some students will learn more by reading the note, particularly if they missed some materials covered in the lecture, or they did not understand some points in the lecture.

If the lecture is not clear, students are encouraged to add questions as to what is not clear. In addition to some explanation/descriptions being unclear, it may be that motivation for doing something is not clear, derivation steps appear to be missing, etc. Any of these points should be brought up in the note following each day's lecture note.

Once questions are posted, I hope other students will try to answer them as answering other students questions is a great way for you to deepen your own understanding. If no students answer some of the questions, I am prepared to answer them, but I feel that this is less desirable.

When a quiz time approaches, I believe these notes are an excellent place for you to go to to review the materials we have covered.

how to use and edit wiki pages

information about wiki editing

A good introduction to editing wiki articles is located at the syntax page. Additional information coming from slides for a talk given by David Christle in another class is attached here.

sign your name for your contributions

It's also possible to easily sign your work. The point of this would be so that if we all added our ethanol calculations to a page on ethanol, we could sign each version of the calculation with a signature like this. — Yuichi Kubota 2008/09/15 21:18

math equation in wiki

The multimath plugin has been installed last spring, so math formatting such as <math>\int_a^b f(x)\,\mathrm dx = F(b) - F(a)</math> is supposed to work with both LaTeX formatting and the PHP Math plugin. However, right now, it does not seem to be working. I will post a message here once it works.

Are you ready? Then click one of the following links and get started.
