Campuses:
This is an old revision of the document!
First please note that gmail is the official university email system, and as such receives a much higher support level than the “best effort” Physics system.
Having said that, for anyone who wants to forward umn.edu email to Physics….
<note warning> Warning: Do not set up the forwarding above if you already forward mail from physics email to umn.edu, or you will cause a loop and lose mail! </note>
<note> What follows are some outdated instructions on how to tell Google to also forward Spam - there have been some issues with this approach, namely that this junk mail will get rejected by our own mail servers and causing many erroneous emails to be received.
We now recommend not to forward you spam along, and instead periodically check your gmail spam folder to make sure nothing is incorrectly categorized. </note> Next, you can optionally set up so that gmail does not put anything into the Spam Folder, and instead forwards on “spam” messages to the address that was set up above.
This is only useful if you don't want to trust gmail's spam detection, or to periodically check your gmail “Spam” folder.
