Physics Computing: Contact Information

Jesse Bren and Chad Sullivan along with CSE-IT make up the support team for the Physics and Astronomy computer systems. They support the physics and astronomy servers, administrative staff, network, and linux and windows workstations.

Questions & Requests

  • First, search our support wiki - your question may already be answered here.
  • Send email to csehelp@umn.edu - This will create a help ticket which we will use to track your issue. It also allows us to track trends and recurring problems, and ensure we collect the information we need to process your request. Be sure to provide as many details regarding you issue as possible.
  • Contact us using this form - another way to get your question into the ticket system.

You can also look for us in Physics/Nano room 347. Please remember though, that we do not operate a general-purpose help desk, and so we can't promise anyone will be available to assist with non-urgent walk-in issues.

Urgent Problems and Escalation

  • Anyone experiencing system problems should call our general support number 612-626-1139.
    • If there is no reply, leave a brief but clear message. The voicemail message will be transcribed by Google Voice and sent to our ticket system.

University Systems

For issues with university systems, such as Enterprise systems (Peoplesoft, etc), the wireless network, or central email system, please call the OIT help desk at 1-HELP (612-301-4357).
