Guest Network Access

Visitor and Conference Access

For those without accounts, there are two ways to access the wireless network.

The simplest is to simply connect to the network named “UofM Guest”. You can use any existing email address to log in to this network.

Staff and faculty can also sponsor short-term wireless access for another person. The access expires at midnight after 4-5 days. Go to https://www.umn.edu/dirtools/sponsor-wireless for more information and to sponsor an account. Your guest should then be able to use this account to connect to the “UofM” or “UofM Secure” networks.

Requests for guest accounts for conferences can be made in a similar way, except a small charge applies. Full information on the types of wireless accounts, and the charge scale for conferences, is available at http://www.umn.edu/wireless/information/access/conference/index.html

How to Connect as a Guest

Wirelessly

To use the wireless network as a guest, simply associate with the University's wireless network by following the instructions on the U of M Wireless information page.

Information about the wireless network specific to Physics users is available here.

Wired

If you have a university X.500 or Physics account, you can plug in to any free network port and open a web browser. After authenticating, you should have access to the Physics network and other sites within the university. This netwrok access is provided mainly to help you register for wired network access, and does not provide full connectivity to the internet.
