This is an old revision of the document!

Matlab

The department has a license for Matlab which allows us to run it on any departmental or research group system.

Version 2008a is available for Windows and several Unix platforms including Linux and Mac OS X.

In order to run the software you will need to be connected to the network. Licenses are served from a license server and continuous network connection is required to use any of the toolboxes.

Installation

Obtain the license.dat file from http://www.cs.umn.edu/matlab/. You must download this and have it in the installation folder prior to starting the installation.

The PLP (Personal License Password) for Windows installations can be found in the downloads area.

You can obtain ISO installation images (for burning to DVD) from the software downloads area.

To install on UNIX/Linux:

  • Create a new MATLAB directory
  • Create a license.dat file and place it in the new MATLAB directory.
  • Mount the DVD and execute the intallation script by entering /cdrom/install*&

To install on Windows:

  • Exit any programs that you have running, expecially existing copies of MATLAB.
  • For individual (stand-alone) Windows installation, place the DVD into your drive and follow the prompts.
