This is an old revision of the document!

Matlab

The department subscribes to a license for Matlab which allows us to run it on any university-owned (not personal) system.

In order to run the software you will need to be connected to the university network (if running it from outside, you can connect to the University VPN service). Licenses are served from a license server and continuous network connection is required to use any of the toolboxes.

Version 2012a is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

The specific OS versions supported by Matlab have changed over time.

  • As of Matlab 2010b, Mac OS is now only supported on Intel-based systems, and Mac OS 10.6 or later is required.
  • Matlab 2012a is the last version to support linux 32-bit systems

See http://www.mathworks.com/support/sysreq for more details.

Installation and License Setup

The software installers are available as zip archives from the software downloads section of MyPhys.

Also available in the matlab folder is a license.txt file containing the PLP (Personal License Password), and license.lic which is the license file itself.

The College only has a limited number of licenses for each toolbox. Current license availability can be found at https://wwws.cs.umn.edu/license-status/details.php?listing=0&server=0
