This is an old revision of the document!
From Origin Labs (http://www.originlab.com): Origin 8 provides a data analysis and graphing workspace for scientists and engineers. New features in version 8 include multi-sheet workbooks with sparklines, expanded import capabilities, SQL queries, automatic recalculation of analysis results and new graph types.
We license the “standard” version of the software.
You can download a CD image of the installer for Windows from our downloads page. The serial number is also available from this page.
There are two possible ways to install it, with network license or locked license.
The network serial number is used to install Origin and connect with the CEMS licensing server, badcookie.cems.umn.edu
(Chemical Engineering run the Origin license server).
After installation, each user will be prompted one time for the data folder Origin should use. On most systems, the default selection is appropriate.
If prompted, the installation server name is badcookie.cems.umn.edu
. No additional network port information is required.
After Origin is launched a second time, you will be prompted to register the installation. Individual registration of the network installation of Origin is optional but recommended to receive updates within the program. Registration requires creating an account on the Originlab website.
The “locked” serial number is used to install Origin and register the individual installation with OriginLab. No network licensing server is required and the computer may be off the network entirely after the installation and registration process has been completed.
After installation, each user will be prompted one time for the data folder Origin should use. On most systems, the default selection is appropriate.
Upon first launch, the program will prompt to acquire a license and register the product. Please follow the directions to acquire an appropriate license. Registration/licensing requires creating an account on the OriginLab website.
