Departmental Financial Support of Research-related Travel

Here is some information about how the department will support you if you want to go to a conference or workshop.

Who is eligible?

Physics Graduate students who have been accepted as speakers or for a poster presenters at a conference or the APS meeting (or equivalent meeting). Astrophysics students should contact their DGS.

How much can you get?

The department will pay half of your expenses, up to Code Text$600 per trip, with a career total of no more than $1200.

How often can I use this fund?

As many times as you want as long as the career total of $1200 is not exceeded.

How do you apply for it?

1) Travel awards will be awarded as lump-sum travel fellowships. Students must submit by Email a formal request to the Director of Graduate Studies (Joseph Kapusta as of July 2010: kapusta@physics.umn.edu) with a copy to Judy Soine (grad@physics.umn.edu). Requests shall be in the form of an abstract and estimated budget and if approved, the student will receive a fellowship not to exceed $600 or half of the total estimated cost of the trip, whichever is less.

2) Student advisers are limited to two student-trips per year and a maximum of $1,200.
