The process of finding a research adviser is quite informal in our School, and will require a fair amount of time and attention on your part. You are expected to explore several fields and groups, and to meet with several potential advisers (and perhaps their current students) in order to find a good fit with your interests. On the faculty side, keep in mind that there will be constraints as to whether you will be accepted into a research group, including its current size, or funding expectations. It is also possible that a faculty member may believe that the projects available in the group are not a good match for your background or interests. Therefore you may not be able to settle into the group at the top of your list. | The process of finding a research adviser is quite informal in our School, and will require a fair amount of time and attention on your part.
