Gamma Counting Stations

  1. Description/Name: Gamma-Ray Counting Station at the 4850-ft level
  2. Planned use (be specific):
    1. Primary function: Materials screening
    2. Temporary and permanent storage: *Separated sample storage rooms for screening and for keeping
    3. Sample and detector handling: *Clean room with class 10,000, liquid nitrogen, sample preparation including assay materials, fume hoods
    4. Jigs, fixtures, scaffolds, etc. necessary: Jigs for sample preparation; Lab fixtures: standard lab requirements aand air monitoring for certain gases
    5. E & O activities: daily (emergency 24/7); Training students

    1. Steady: Two people
    2. Peak: Ten people

  6. Experiment Systems: Germanium low background detectors and DAQ system
