Ulta Sensitive Immersion Tank

  1. Description/Name: Ultra-sensitive Immersion Tank at the 4850' level
  2. Planned use (be specific):
    1. Primary function: A large-scale screener using either liquid scintillator or doped water to provide counting capabilities for large samples or materials
    2. Temporary and permanent storage: samples will be stored for varying periods within
    3. Sample and detector handling: sample handling done in sample prep area
    4. Jigs, fixtures, scaffolds, etc. necessary: upper deck scaffolding; scaffolding for side port entries; crane (listed below)
    5. E & O activities: grad student and postdoc training. No public use
  3. Occupancy:
    1. Steady: 0
    2. Peak: 8
  4. Adjacencies (list/distance):
  5. Space size (gsf and/or WxLxH): 4 m diam x 4 m high (plus 1 m blanket)
  6. Experiment Systems:
  7. Shielding: included
  8. Floor load (PSF): *approx. 1.19 tons per sq. m at center (assumes Borexino-style AV of 1m radius containing 3.73 tons of LS cocktail
  9. Material handling (cranes, etc.)
    1. crane for lifting samples in and out (load?)
  10. Finishes (walls/floor/ceiling):
  11. Casework:
  12. Storage:
  13. Furniture/Fixtures/Equipment (non-experiment):
  14. Mechanical:
    1. Environmental conditions: radon reduced air
    2. Clean class: 2000 - Should there be a special, cleaner room on top?
    3. Ventilation: nitrogen cover gas system (goes here, or elsewhere?)
    4. Exhaust:
    5. Plumbing (domestic, waste, systems): circulation of water and LS for cleaning and monitoring
    6. Fire Suppression:
    7. Building Management System:
    8. Fume hoods:
    9. Chilled water
    10. Other:
  15. Electrical:
    1. Power (clean and dirty): for PMTs, DAQ
    2. Lighting:
    3. Low Voltage/Data/Communication:
    4. Fire Detection/Alarm:
    5. Other:
  16. Acoustical:
  17. Vibration Isolation: not needed?
  18. EMI/RFI Isolation:
  19. Hazardous materials:
  20. Special Consideration (expansion, etc.):
