Clean Machine Shop

  1. Description/Name: Machine shop located inside the class 2000 clean room environment at 4850 level
  2. Planned use (be specific):
    1. Primary function: Prepare Copper for shielding and interior fixtures, lead, poly shielding, repairing screeners, repair experiments, build pieces for ultra-sensitive tank (or is that done off site?) Any building for FAARM will require early deployment of machine shop
    2. Temporary and permanent storage: clean tool storage, wipes and cloths, alcohol, distilled water, detergent,
    3. Sample and detector handling: nitrogen purge cabinet for temporary holding during machining
    4. Jigs, fixtures, scaffolds: lathe, jigsaw, cutter, computer controlled anything?, (Jim Beaty is thinking…), welding machine??smoke?, ultrasonic, ability to machine lead, Be, other hazardous solids.
    5. E & O activities NONE
  3. Occupancy:
    1. Steady:1
    2. Peak:4
  4. Adjacencies (list/distance):
  5. Space size (gsf and/or WxLxH):84 m^2
  6. Experiment Systems:
  7. Shielding:
  8. Floor load (PSF):
  9. Material handling (cranes, etc.) movable crane
  10. Finishes (walls/floor/ceiling):
  11. Casework:
  12. Storage:
  13. Furniture/Fixtures/Equipment (non-experiment): workbenches,
  14. Mechanical:
    1. Environmental conditions:
    2. Clean class: 2000
    3. Ventilation:
    4. Exhaust:
    5. Plumbing (domestic, waste, systems): hazardous waste disposal
    6. Fire Suppression: Both powder and CO2 extinguishers, sprinkler system
    7. Building Management System:
    8. Fume hoods: No
    9. Chilled water: Source of Purified water
    10. Other:
  15. Electrical:
    1. Power (clean and dirty):dirty power is fine. Need electrical noise isolation from our tools to rest of experiment!
    2. Lighting: x sq feet plus lamps.
    3. Low Voltage/Data/Communication: depends on machines… no data communication
    4. Fire Detection/Alarm: smoke detectors
    5. Other:
  16. Acoustical:
  17. Vibration Isolation:
  18. EMI/RFI Isolation: Need to pay attention. Welder? Other?
  19. Hazardous materials: lead scraps, cleaning products,
  20. Special Consideration (expansion, etc.):
