Participants: Chao, Wenzhao, Iseley, Jason, Jodi, Hang and a new postdoc from Jodi's group(name?)
Meeting notes
Summary from USD group(Chao): (a, n) calculation of U228 and Radon decay chain were conducted. The database will be put on the USD webpage after consulting and working with the ITS department. This will take a few weeks. For the radiogenic background database at Homestake Mine: 1) gamma ray & radon data at different level of depth were taken using NaI & RAD 7 detector, respectively. Currently a low background counting detector (N-type germanium detector) is placed at 4850-level. This provides a cross check for the gamma ray background measurement. The result actually match the old data very well. 2) The simulation for (a, n) neutrons from the surrounding rocks at 4850-level was confirmed by the measurement from DIANA group. A database to wrap gamma-ray, radon and neutron flux at Homestake Mine is under construction.
Status report from SMU group(Jodi): The comparison table of cross section data used by Sources and TALYS is posted at
http://www.physics.smu.edu/cooley/aarm/webpage.html . Since Silvia is taking another job she is limited to take more assignments on this direction. Jodi will get contact with Silvia to see where she is and how much she can contribute to this group. Hang will step in to continue Silvia's work but he needs more time to get familiar with the Sources code.
Actions to take: 1) Jodi commits to find out the validation of Source code especially for the AmBe source simulation. 2) for the comparison of Sources code and USD web database, we need to compare the differential cross section, i.e, for a fixed alpha energy incidence corresponding to a neutron energy spectrum.
