Windows printing

<note important> Important, if you are not on the Tate Lab wired network (eg you are using wireless), you must log in to the Physics website and wait a few minutes. Refer to the note on the parent page </note>

Outline instructions for XP, Vista and Windows 7

Use the “Add printer” wizard…

  1. choose “Add a local printer” (not network)
  2. Choose “Create a new port”, using type “Standard TCP/IP port”
  3. Enter the printer hostname you want, eg “lj216.spa.umn.edu”
    • You can find a list of available printers in MyPhys
  4. You may need to download and install a printer driver separately (for example, from the Xerox web site).

Additional directions for Windows XP and Toshiba copiers

  • Follow the above directions for the Add Printer Wizard, and create a new “Standard TCP/IP Port” named “toshibaXXX.spa.umn.edu” as the printer name where XXX is the room number
  • But, once the port is created, “cancel” out of the Add Printer Wizard
  • Open the zip file by double-clicking (as if it was a folder)
  • Navigate into “driver-files” and run “Setup.exe”
  • Setup.exe will scan for printers. Choose to add the “Standard TCP/IP Port” that you created earlier instead.
  • Setup will then finish and install the printer.
